The Manly Drug Education and Counselling Centre (MDECC) is a
non-government organisation. MDECC's underlying philosophy is one
of harm minimisation and community development is employed as its
approach to service delivery. MDECC is funded by NSW Health through
Northern Sydney Central Coast Area Health.
MDECC provides innovative programs for young people, parents and
families. These include health promotion, early intervention and
counselling/treatment programs.
MDECC also has an extensive range of peer education programs
that involve the training of peer educators from various target
groups. The peer educators are mobilised within their communities
to provide informal education to their friends/peers. All programs
aim to enhance mental health and wellbeing and reduce the harms
associated with drug and alcohol use.
MDECC is based in Manly on Sydney's Northern Beaches. It is a
free and confidential service and is accessible by public transport
(bus or ferry).
