MDECC has a long standing history.  Having being first established in Kings Cross in 1972, MDECC relocated to its current location at 91 Pittwater Road, Manly in 1973.
Throughout its existence, MDECC has always provided a unique drug and alcohol service that has responded to the local community.  MDECC has built credibility in its ability to provide education programs alongside its counselling/treatment program.

In 1999, MDECC formally adopted its priority target populations of young people, parents and families.

MDECC has developed a diverse range of innovative programs in the areas of:

• Health Promotion
• Early Intervention
• Counselling/Treatment
• Peer Education

In 2007, mental health promotion was integrated across all drug and alcohol programs at MDECC.
