MDECC's programs are constantly changing in response to the
emerging issues and needs of the community. MDECC ensures
that it is up to date with local drug and alcohol trends and
community concerns to inform program planning. Being an NGO
allows MDECC the flexibility to be responsive in this way.
There is always a range of education and health promotion
initiatives on offer. The Intervention and
Counselling/Treatment Programs also have a range of options
available depending on the needs of young people, parents and
families.
MDECC prides itself in the development of new and innovative
programs so keep an eye out for these.
We have just trained a group of young people from the Northern
Beaches to become peer educators in response to the quadrupling of
Chlaymidia (the most common sexually transmissible infection STI)
rates in Australia in the last 10 years. As Chlaymidia affects the
16-24 year old age bracket and young people report that being under
the influence of drugs and alcohol is one of the main reasons for
not practicing safe sex - this program is very pertinent for our
target client group.
